Structured Query Language or more commonly called SQL is a database language developed by IBM. The language helps process information in a database with ease and this is the reason why SQL has become a standard database language. If IT is your field of interest then becoming a database developer is the right choice. An efficient database developer can find job opportunities in a variety of fields, IT companies being the obvious choice. A database developer needs to identify traits and interests in IT prior to attending professional instruction classes. A person can take a certification course from a technical or professional institute; if you aspire to achieve a better job then a full four year college program in computer science is required. It is good to have the knowledge of various database languages like Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Access and Oracle. The candidate should have strong database architectural skills, and the ability to construct, install, and troubleshoot all types of database systems. The developers need to write reports and manuals on the work completed therefore they should have excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Prior work experience in the database development field will enhance the resume of the candidate and increase chances of obtaining a job in this profession.

The developer is responsible for maintenance of data and improving export and import functions in SQL, they are also responsible for maintaining the integrity and the security of stored data of the company.



The SQL developer has to maintain and create SQL packages including SQL mail, SQL Agent and VB scripting.
An SQL developer has to maintain SQL objects for developing, testing and production, they are responsible for resolving any database application issues that may affect the SQL environment.

They also have to monitor SQL scheduled jobs in a production environment. The SQL developer has to work as a team in order to achieve goals. He/she must to be proficient with SQL Query analyzer and other such tools to manage SQL. The candidate should also be well acquainted with VB scripting, SQL server 2000 and SQL Server 2008.

An SQL database developer, who would like to get a better job, should take up certified examinations conducted by Microsoft called Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA).This exam is a true test for the developer and passing it will enhance an individual's resume and help him/her get better job profiles.

The average salary of an SQL developer is $50 to 70 per hour. This is approximately $70,000 to $84,000 per year depending on the company and place, experience and the individual's credentials.
